What is Jesus worth?

Summary

When Jesus had finished all these sayings, he said to his disciples, “You know that after two days the Passover is coming, and the Son of Man will be delivered up to be crucified.” | 1-2

As we enter back into Matthew we are doing it at the point when His teaching ministry has been completed and His focus is going to be on preparing for His death. He isn’t the only one preparing. The chief priests have been plotting for some time and are now finalizing their plan to have Jesus arrested and killed. They have found their accomplice, one of Jesus own disciples: Judas Iscariot. The Bible gives us very little information on what made Judas willing to take part. Maybe he felt slighted. Maybe his love for money made 30 pieces of silver too tempting. What we do know is his love had shifted. The value that Jesus once held was no longer enough. Sandwiched in we get this story of someone who found ultimate value in Jesus. As Jesus is dining a woman comes in and pours expensive perfume on Him; the disciples condemn her for her waste, but Jesus celebrates this act of honest worship. He makes it clear that nothing done in the worship of Him is ever wasted.
