1 PETER :: SET YOUR HOPE…on God’s justice

July 15, 2016

Summary

KEY VERSES // And if you call on him as Father who judges impartially according to each one’s deeds, conduct yourselves with fear throughout the time of your exile, knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot. | 1 Peter 1:17-19

Peter shows us that we are deeply valued by God. Before the world existed he was, and was prepared to give himself for us, who were not even yet created. The value that we have in Christ is completely ascribed to us by Him. There is nothing that we have done that would cause him to leave us, and there is nothing we can do that would cause him to love us any more than he does. This causes us to have full reliance on God for not only our salvation but for our daily lives. We are completely incapable of living a holy life if not strengthened by and motivated by God. That is why he says our faith and hope are in God. Anything else that we could possibly hope in would fall miserably short.
