The Weary World Rejoices

ADVENT 2025

Every year during ADVENT, we sing the song O Holy Night. As we reflected on the words to this song, we found that it provides a great story arc for the Christmas season. We will be following the traditional outline of Hope, Peace, Love, and Joy, but with a special emphasis on how they are described in this Christmas classic.

HOPE: The thrill of Hope

DATE — November 30, 2025
TEXT — Romas 8:18-24

The thrill of hope
The weary world rejoices
For yonder breaks
A new and glorious morn

The Incarnation created hope for the world 2000 years ago and also still provides new hope today.

PEACE: He knows our Need

DATE — December 7, 2025
TEXT — Hebrews 4:14-16

The King of kings lay thus in lowly manger
In all our trials born to be our friend!
He knows our need—to our weakness is no stranger.

In the Incarnation, Jesus experiences our pain and promises a peace that transcends the storms of this life.

LOVE: His Law is Love

DATE — December 14, 2025
TEXT — John 13:34-35

Truly He taught us to love one another;
His law is love and His gospel is peace.
Chains shall He break for the slave is our brother
And in His Name all oppression shall cease.

The incarnation was the greatest expression of love and an example for us of how to serve others.

JOY: Sweet hymns of Joy

DATE — December 21, 2025
TEXT — Philippians 2:5-11

Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,
Let all within us praise His holy Name
Christ is the Lord! O praise His name forever

The incarnation becomes our joy because He who came to take our place is now seated on the throne.
