Through the Fall we have been talking about how the world we currently live in is an upside down version of what God intended His creation to be. He designed us to live in submission to Him, but we act like gods of our own little kingdoms. We were meant to be in a cooperative, no shame relationship with people, but we fight and harm one another. We were designed to have security in our identity as creatures with purpose, but we are full of anxiety. The world we live in is a twisted version of itself.
God could have left us to merely suffer the consequences of our rebellion; but instead, He sent His son. Jesus became human and walked among us. He entered into the world in order to save it. Jesus is the only one who can turn the world (and the people in it) right side up again. As we celebrate Christmas, we will focus on how Jesus does not meet our upside down expectations, but instead, comes to repair what has been broken.
In a doubtful and darkened world, the incarnation brings the light of hope.
In a world bent towards hate, the incarnation causes us to love the unlovely.
In a world bound to war, the incarnation brings peace in the least likely of ways.
In a time when many despair, the incarnation brings to us a joy we cannot lose.
