1 Peter 2.18-25 | STAND FIRM…on the example of Christ

August 14, 2016

Summary

For this is a gracious thing, when, mindful of God, one endures sorrows while suffering unjustly. For what credit is it if, when you sin and are beaten for it, you endure? But if when you do good and suffer for it you endure, this is a gracious thing in the sight of God. | 1 Peter 2.19-20

Peter’s command here is not about empowerment for the sake of self, but empowerment for the sake of the Kingdom. If we focus on our roles in society, given to us by God, rather than how everyone else is affecting us, we can find meaning, power, and assurance. Meaning because our lives matters. Power because there are things within our control. Assurance because, even in suffering/injustice/frustratingly stupid people who make my life harder than it should be, God is using US to accomplish His purposes.
