Summary
KEY VERSES // In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. | 1 Peter 1.6-7
There is not a person in this world who is not suffering. Sure, we in the West suffer our ‘first-world problems’ while others are contemplating where they will get their next meal, but we also have first-world resolve. Which means, we are all facing things that seem bigger than we can handle. What do we do with this? It is easy to become overwhelmed with the struggle; to allow it to define your hope. Peter causes us to do the opposite: to allow our hope to drive our suffering. In this we can suffer well, knowing that is through suffering that we grow, worship, and set an example of faith for others. Our suffering is not a hindrance to our faith; it is the means by which our faith is tested, strengthened, and manifested. Don’t waste your suffering!
