All is Vanity

December 6, 2015

Summary

As we finish the book of Ecclesiastes, the pundit puts an exclamation point on his main theme. This life is meaningless. As he has throughout the book, the pundit does not stay here. He uses this perspective on life to point us toward the one thing that is not vanity: a life lived for God. We were created to fear God and keep His commandments and anything else will lead us to a place where we stand before God in judgment trying to justify our worthiness with a pile of empty deeds. The crazy thing is: when we die to ourselves and give up trying to create meaning, we actually get the meaning we desire. It is only through trusting God and pursuing Him that all of the loose truths that we pick up along the way can find their place in God’s plan for our lives. All else is vanity.
