Summary
We live in a world where we are more connected to one another than human beings have ever been but we are also lonelier. Companionship is not simply the presence of people or the accessibility to another voice; it is to belong. Our loneliness comes, not from not having enough people, but from the feeling that we are outsiders. The pundit describes some of the places where we sense this loneliness: work, family, peers, from those who oppress us…In all of this, he makes it clear that your situation is not the reason for your isolation. It isn’t that you don’t belong. Instead, you need to know how you belong. The solution is not to get a better job, find new friends, run away from family, or to get out away from the bullies; the solution to feeling alone is to recognize how you relate to those who are already there. If you spend your energy finding ways to help others belong, it will refute the lies of Satan that want you to believe: YOU ARE ALL ALONE.
