PSALMS

The book of Psalms is filled with emotions, but it uses emotions differently than we are used to. Emotions are not a baseline for our understanding of truth; in the Psalms emotions are used to orient us to God. First, they give us perspective in who God is in relation to us. Second, this disorient us, by revealing to us what happens when God is not who we expect. Third, they re-orient us, by showing us that these feelings of loneliness, struggle, and fear are not the final word. God is using our earthly experience and the emotions that accompany it, to help us find our peace, love, and hope in Him.
