Summary
There came a man sent from God and his name was John. This is how the writer of the gospel (also John) describes John the Baptizer, the forerunner of Jesus. John’s role in the plan of redemption was to prepare the way, to make clear that the connections between the OT prophecies and Jesus were clear. He called the people to repent, because that is the way that we become humble; that is how we are prepared for a Savior.
