Jesus continues to use the metaphor of shepherd and sheep to describe to the people who He is. He does this so that He can reveal to them things beyond their ability to understand including: sovereignty, trinity, and perseverance.

Jesus makes the claim that He is the light of the world. In typical Jesus fashion, He is presenting eternal truths in human terms. Light may be one of the more successful metaphors for God, because it reveals clearly the idea that it is only through Him that we can make sense of anything else.
